DOIT’s Smart Environment Steering Group Implements PoC Project：eSIM Remote Access Certificate Water Quality Monitoring Application
In response to the evolution of technology and demand of the city, the Department of Information Technology (DOIT) and Taipei Smart City Project Management Office (TPMO) reviewed and adjusted the previous policy of “5+N structure” into a “1+7 arrangement”. With "smart government" as its core value, the revised "1+7" approach expands its focus to seven fields, including smart security, smart building, smart transportation, smart education, smart healthcare, smart environment, and smart economic.
The smart environment steering group, chaired by the Deputy Commissioner of Department of Environmental Protection, comprises the Public Works Department, Taipei Feitsui Reservoir Administration, and Taipei Water Department. The group highlights interaction between citizens and the environment to increase convenience and quality of life through using technology in Taipei. The vision of the promoting framework is smart environment, and advances in this direction involves constructing a sustainable environment, ensuring health & safety, and strengthening urban development. At present, the steering group has accumulated a number of relevant PoC projects, including water supply management, water source management, and flood control.
In the water source management genre, Taisys Corporation, the operator of “eSIM remote access water monitoring project”, has received a subsidy from the Industrial Development Bureau of the Central Government in 2018. Taisys Corporation also plans to verify the stability and replaceability of IoT devices transmitting water quality data. Since 2019, Taisys Corporation has cooperated with the Department of Environmental Protection, the Parks & Street Lights Office, Hydraulic Engineering Office, and DOIT. By installing 5 types of inspection sensors (pH meter, temperature meter, ORP meter, conductivity meter, dissolved oxygen meter) with the eSIM chips embedded, Taisys Corporation successfully verified its technology in switching the carrier numbers remotely and accessing the cloud platform for water quality reports.
